Holding up the universe- Jennifer Niven
This. Book. Where do I even begin? This book is simply amazing and I love it. It was feature in a blog post a few weeks "Books I'm going to read". I'd just bought it and I had heard a lot about it so I was really excited to read it and I'm sooo glad I did. At first I thought that it would be like all the other "teenage love books", where boy meets girl, they fall in love and then they live happily ever after. But, it really wasn't. It was heartfelt and genuine. It made me laugh out loud when I was on a tram, and at one pint I had to put the book down because it was just THAT good.
I was going to write the synopsis myself but if I wrote it myself I'd probably end writing 2 full pages and spoiling the ending...
Everyone thinks they know Libby Strout, the girl once dubbed “America’s Fattest Teen.” But no one’s taken the time to look past her weight to get to know who she really is. Following her mom’s death, she’s been picking up the pieces in the privacy of her home, dealing with her heartbroken father and her own grief. Now, Libby’s ready: for high school, for new friends, for love, and for every possibility life has to offer. In that moment, I know the part I want to play here at MVB High. I want to be the girl who can do anything.
Everyone thinks they know Jack Masselin, too. Yes, he’s got swagger, but he’s also mastered the impossible art of giving people what they want, of fitting in. What no one knows is that Jack has a newly acquired secret: he can’t recognize faces. Even his own brothers are strangers to him. He’s the guy who can re-engineer and rebuild anything, but he can’t understand what’s going on with the inner workings of his brain. So he tells himself to play it cool: Be charming. Be hilarious. Don’t get too close to anyone.
Until he meets Libby. When the two get tangled up in a cruel high school game—which lands them in group counseling and community service—Libby and Jack are both pissed, and then surprised. Because the more time they spend together, the less alone they feel. Because sometimes when you meet someone, it changes the world, theirs and yours.
My favorite character is probably Jack, one of the main characters. (ps. I also really really love Libby, the second main character!!!) I don't want to tell you too much about him since I want all of you to read it so you'll find out yourselves ;)
My favorite quote from the book: "We're all wierd an damaged in our way. You're not the only one.#
The sun is also a star- Nicola Yoon
This is the book I finished most recently. Nicola Yoon is an amazaing author and she is the author of one my absolute favorite books: everything, everything (which is apparently becoming a movie (!!!!)) I had very high expectations and I wasn't disappointed at ALL.
Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.
Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.
The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?
This story is about fate, all the possibilities in our lives and how everything is connected in one way or another. Even if you don't believe in fate and all of that, I strongly recommend that you read this book!!
My favorite quote from the book: “We are capable of big lives. A big history. Why settle? Why choose the practical thing, the mundane thing? We are born to dream and make the things we dream about.”
When we collided- Emery Lord
I read this book back in the summer. I was on my way on holiday with my family and I read the whole book on the airplane on our way there. I really like tho book and its characters but my absolute favorite things about it is probably the cover. I don't really know why but I really, really like it. There has been quite a lot of critique on this book and on Emery´s way of romanticizing mental illnesses the way she did in the book. If I'd have to pick one bad thing about the book it'd probably be that.
Jonah never thought a girl like Vivi would come along.
Vivi didn’t know Jonah would light up her world.
Neither of them expected a summer like this…a summer that would rewrite their futures. In an unflinching story about new love, old wounds, and forces beyond our control, two teens find that when you collide with the right person at just the right time, it will change you forever.
My favorite quote from the book: “Even the constellations can see us now: we are seventeen and shattered and still dancing. We have messy, throbbing hearts, and we are stronger than anyone could ever know.”
So, that is for today´s blog post. I really hope that you enjoyed it. I know I said it in the beginning of the post but I'll say it again: GO CHECK OUT A DAY IN THE LIFE ANONYMOUS ME!!!! I love her blog to pieces and she is the loveliest!
I´ll be back very soon with a new post!
